Though some might think Invisalign is designed for adults, this alternative to braces is also very popular among teenagers looking to perfect their smiles.
The Treatment Designed with Teens in Mind
Oftentimes, teenagers feel self-conscious about the appearance of their smile and are looking for a less noticeable method than braces for straightening their teeth. If this sounds like your teenager, Invisalign Teen just might be the treatment for them!
Though this treatment uses the same technology as Invisalign for adults, Invisalign Teen offers a few extra features designed with our younger patients in mind:
- Compliance indicators: For Invisalign to best work their magic, the given aligners must be worn at least 22 hours a day. We understand this can be hard for busy teens to remember. To combat this, each set of Invisalign Teeth aligners are designed with blue compliance indicator dots which will slowly fade away as they are worn. This helps both you and your teen know if the aligners are being worn enough.
- Free replacement aligners: Since they're removable, aligners can sometimes be hard to keep track of. If an aligner accidentally gets thrown away in the cafeteria, lost during a sleepover, or crushed at the bottom of a gym bag, Invisalign will send up to six replacement aligners to your teen absolutely free of charge.
- Room to grow: Not all teenagers have all of their molars yet. Invisalign Teen allows for these teeth to appear without disrupting the treatment time or process.
Invisalign vs Braces for Teens
Invisalign and braces are both great choices for teens looking to improve their smiles, and they both come with certain advantages and disadvantages.
With almost completely invisible treatment, Invisalign Teen can help boost the confidence of a teen who might feel self-conscious with highly-noticeable braces. Another benefit of Invisalign Teen is the removable aligners, allowing patients to continue eating their favorite foods. These removable aligners are also easy to clean, as you won't have to brush and floss around the brackets and wires that come with braces.
That's not to say traditional braces treatments offer no benefits. Forgetful teens might have a harder time managing Invisalign Teen since they would need to be vigilant about taking aligners out and putting them back in. It is also imperative that they commit to wearing their aligners at least 22 hours a day in order to stay on treatment, which some teens might find difficult to do. And, at the end of the day, some orthodontic issues will be most effectively corrected with braces.
